Overview of Vung Ang 1 Thermal Power Plant
Vung Ang 1 Thermal Power Plant is a major player in the energy production sector in Vietnam, particularly in the field of coal-fired thermal power. With a capacity of 1,200 MW and being owned by PetroVietnam Power Corporation, the plant holds a vital position in providing electricity to the national power grid, addressing energy shortages, and ensuring energy security for the country's industrialization and modernization.
The Vung Ang 1 Thermal Power Plant employs the technology of direct coal injection, combined with the use of Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) as auxiliary fuel, especially during start-up and at low loads. With the supply of class 5a coal from Quang Ninh, the plant has received approval from the Prime Minister and is included in the National Power Development Master Plan for the 2006-2015 period. When operational, Vung Ang 1 Thermal Power Plant is expected to contribute 7.2 billion kWh per year to the national power grid, ensuring a stable power supply to meet the increasing demands of society and the economy.
Operational Performance of the Plant
In the first 6 months of the year, Vung Ang 1 Thermal Power Plant achieved remarkable success by producing over 2.1 billion kWh of electricity. These figures serve as evidence of the plant's high efficiency and stable operation, showcasing its significant contribution to the national power supply. Particularly, in June 2023, the plant generated 377 million kWh of electricity, resulting in a revenue of VND 699 billion.
This success not only demonstrates the professionalism in operational management but also actively contributes to addressing energy shortages, providing a stable power source to the system, and promoting the local economic development. With a capacity of 1,200 MW and considerable production efficiency, Vung Ang 1 Thermal Power Plant continues to be a vital player in Vietnam's power sector, positively contributing to the country's sustainable development.
Sustainable Development at Vung Ang Thermal Power Plant
Vung Ang 1 Thermal Power Plant not only stands out as one of the major electricity producers in Vietnam but also distinguishes itself through strong commitment and attention to environmental protection. With a significant capacity of 1,200MW and a crucial position in the national energy system, the plant has implemented measures and initiatives to minimize negative impacts on the environment.
One notable aspect is the use of direct coal injection technology and the selection of Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) as auxiliary fuel, especially during start-up and at low loads. This demonstrates a focus on reducing emissions and optimizing the production process.
Furthermore, utilizing domestic raw materials, such as class 5a coal from Quang Ninh, not only enhances energy security but also minimizes the environmental impact of transportation.
In collaboration with iLotusLand Vietnam Joint Stock Company, the plant has implemented Environmental Data Monitoring and Management Software. This automation enhances monitoring and reporting processes, strengthens responsiveness to environmental incidents, and ensures the accuracy and reliability of data.
