The role of a Mid-level Product Owner is as follows:

  • Product Direction: Mid-level Product Owners are responsible for determining the direction, objectives, and development strategy of a product based on customer, user, and market needs.
  • Requirements Gathering and Analysis: They collect, analyze, and define product requirements from stakeholders such as customers, users, development teams, and other departments.
  • Product Backlog Management: Mid-level Product Owners build, update, and prioritize the product backlog to ensure that requirements and features are planned for development in the right order of priority.
  • Interaction with Development Team: They convey product requirements and address the development team's questions, helping the team understand and implement requirements accurately.
  • Product Quality Assurance: Mid-level Product Owners inspect product quality, ensuring that developed features meet requirements and achieve desired quality standards.
  • Product Evaluation and Improvement: They assess user satisfaction and product effectiveness, proposing improvement solutions and enhancements to maintain or enhance product quality.
  • Monitoring Product Development Progress: Mid-level Product Owners track the progress of product development, update information, and report progress to relevant stakeholders.
  • Creating Documentation and User Guides: They create product documentation, user guides, and training materials for users and development teams.
  • Participation in Agile Meetings: Mid-level Product Owners participate in Agile meetings such as Sprint Planning, Sprint Review, Sprint Retrospective, and Daily Stand-up to ensure coordination and communication among stakeholders.
  • Risk and Resource Management: They evaluate and address project risks while efficiently managing resources (personnel, finances, time) to ensure project completion.
  • Partner and Customer Relations: Mid-level Product Owners are responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with partners, customers, and other stakeholders to ensure product satisfaction.
  • Team Development and Training: They may take on mentoring and training roles for team members, especially Junior Product Owners, to help them develop the necessary skills and knowledge for the job.


  • Communication skills: Excellent communication skills are crucial for Mid-level Product Owners to convey information, product requirements, and address queries from stakeholders such as development teams, customers, users, and other departments.
  • Project management skills: Mid-level Product Owners need strong project management skills, including time management, resource management, risk management, and project scope management, to ensure timely completion and meet quality requirements.
  • Analytical and Decision-Making Skills: They must possess analytical skills to analyze data, evaluate product effectiveness, and make accurate decisions regarding development strategy, feature prioritization, and improvement solutions.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Mid-level Product Owners need the ability to quickly and effectively solve problems, proposing creative and practical solutions to address issues that arise during product development.
  • Teamwork Skills: Effective teamwork and collaboration with development teams, customers, users, and other stakeholders are essential to achieve project goals.

  • Creativity and Innovation: Mid-level Product Owners need to have a creative mindset and continuously seek ways to innovate the product, propose new ideas, and provide innovative solutions to make the product unique and appealing to users.

Candidates with one of the following certifications are preferred:

  1. Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) from Scrum Alliance
  2. Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO) from
  3. Certified Agile Product Manager (CAL-APM) from Scrum Alliance
  4. Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt from recognized Lean Six Sigma organizations
  5. Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) from the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA)
