Installation of environmental monitoring data management software at the DONRE Bac Giang

November 27, 2023

In tandem with economic and social development, environmental protection has always been a top priority in provinces and cities nationwide. In recent years, Bac Giang Province has focused on refining numerous mechanisms and policies to support the enhancement of monitoring and management for environmental protection across the province. The foremost criterion in this endeavor is the improvement of the automatic environmental monitoring system. Therefore, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment (DONRE) has implemented monitoring and data management software for environmental monitoring developed by iLotusLand.

Bac Giang – A land blessed with natural richness

Bac Giang is a midland province in the Northeast region of Vietnam. The province is located approximately 50 km north of the capital Hanoi and about 110 km south of the Huu Nghi International Border Gate. Bac Giang has a natural area of around 3,851.4 km² and is divided into 10 administrative units, including Bac Giang City and 9 districts.

The region features the distinctive natural landscapes of the midland interspersed with fertile plains and mountainous areas, bearing the cultural imprint of ancient Kinh Bac. The combination of the delta and highland areas grants Bac Giang fascinating mountainous landscapes, challenging terrain, waterfalls, and rich plant life. These resources are valuable for the diverse development of various types of tourism, including ecological, exploratory, and adventure tourism.

Beyond its scenic beauty, Bac Giang carries the cultural legacy of the ancient Kinh Bac region, inheriting both tangible and intangible cultural heritage as a treasure for cultural tourism development. Notably, Quan Ho folk songs have been recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage representative of humanity, and Ca Tru has been recognized as an intangible cultural heritage in urgent need of protection.

Bac Giang aims to improve the Provincial Green Index (PGI)

Provincial Green Index (PGI) is a valuable policy tool that can complement the Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) to promote the improvement of an investment-friendly and environmentally sustainable business environment in Vietnam. It is also an index aimed at fostering the development of an environmentally friendly business ecosystem and attracting more efficient green and sustainable investment projects in Vietnam in the coming time.

To continue maintaining and improving the PGI, creating even more positive changes in the province's business investment environment, Bac Giang Province requires departments, functional agencies, localities, and units to implement synchronized solutions for managing and protecting the environment.

One of the striving goals is to continue investing in upgrading the automatic environmental monitoring system continuously. Ensure that 100% of facilities with major emissions (air and water) install and connect automatic environmental monitoring data on wastewater and emissions to the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to monitor and supervise directly according to legal regulations.

Completing the environmental monitoring network

To improve environmental quality in the area, Bac Giang Province will upgrade and improve the environmental monitoring network to timely alert negative impacts on environmental quality. This allows localities to have appropriate and effective coping measures.

Building a network of monitoring points in Bac Giang Province is one of the top priorities. The purpose of this activity is to monitor the changes in environmental components at monitoring points, identify issues related to environmental quality and factors affecting the environment to provide information, data assessing the current situation, environmental quality trends, and adverse impacts on the environment. This information serves the environmental management work throughout the province.

The results of the monitoring program will contribute to establishing a database and improving the database system in the field of natural resources and the environment. This database plays a crucial role in selecting goals for development planning in sectors and areas across the province, focusing on sustainable development. Systematically updated and stored data will facilitate the application of information technology advancements to process, store, and transmit information to serve environmental management throughout the province.

DONRE of Bac Giang has implemented iLotusLand's environmental monitoring data management software.

With the goal of enhancing a modern and synchronized environmental monitoring and quality management system, the Department has collaborated with iLotusLand to install data management software for 7 monitoring stations, including 2 ambient air monitoring stations and 5 surface water monitoring stations. The installation aims to provide information and data on the current state and trends in environmental quality for these areas, enhancing the capacity for environmental alertness, monitoring, and management.

The iLotusLand installation and configuration engineering team has directly carried out a business trip to the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Bac Giang Province to install the monitoring software, ensuring compliance with the instructions, criteria, and standards set by the Department when putting it into use. We also conducted a handover session and provided guidance on using the software for the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Bac Giang Province to ensure that the customer has the best experience when using the iLotusLand software.

Through the process of measurement and analysis of parameters such as radiation, CO, NO2, PM2.5, NOx, wind direction, rainfall, TSP, SO2, RH, etc., the iLotusLand software helps control the factors affecting the ambient air environment. It enables timely management of emissions and monitors air quality at the installation locations.

For surface water monitoring stations, the software measures parameters such as COD, DO, Ammonia, Phosphates, TSS, Temperature, pH, and Level. These indicators are continuously updated and reported in real-time, allowing for timely detection and handling when there is a risk of exceeding permissible discharge limits.
